Packaging for Shipping
- Encourage suppliers to remove single-use plastics in packaging.
- Source products in bulk with no/minimal plastic, then portion for sale, securing with natural rubber bands
- Recycled brown paper used for padding in shipping boxes.
- We only use recycled cardboard boxes for shipping, no plastic bags/satchels, this protects your safety gear & emergency kits from damage & reduces plastic use.
- Printing paper made from recycled materials
- The only plastic we purchased is bio-degradable /compostable i.e. bags for face masks, pet waste bags.
- Avoid all other single use plastic.
INSULATION REDUCES POWER USE
Keeping the temperature right inside with minimal/no power
- Additional insulation in ceiling/walls (double+ recommended)
- Draft strips around doors (all inner & outer)
- Block out blinds with large overhang on all sides on window, keep sun out on hot days, keep in heat in when cool & add layer of insulation to windows.
- Double glazed windows - reduce heat is loss.
- All water used for the business is harvested from rain water tanks on site.
All contributions big or small make a difference
- Light bulbs all energy efficient
- Cleaning & single use products are recyclable and/or biodegradable i.e. toilet paper, tissues, hand wash, dish washing detergent etc.
- Avoid toxic chemical use on outside areas of the property i.e. weed killers, bug sprays etc
- Planted 2,000+ trees & shrubs (80% native) on property in 5 years, support ecosystem of native bees, insects, birds and wildlife.
